Closing of School Criteria
Emergency Info for Parents
Our district uses the SchoolMessenger Notification System to provide timely communication to parents and staff members on matters such as district emergencies and general interest activities. All registered students are automatically entered in SchoolMessenger with their Genesis listed phone number and email address. In order to enhance our ability to accurately deliver that information, you can update your own contact preference profile by creating an account at https://go.schoolmessenger.com using the email address that is listed under contacts in Genesis. This allows you to control the ways in which you prefer to be contacted. It also works like a mailbox, giving you a place to review messages you may have missed.
Parent Squads
Elementary parent squads may be utilized at your school, check with your PTA President. Parents are asked to keep emergency numbers current.
- Emergency closing prior to start of the school day: Any closing prior to the start of the school day will be sent out by SchoolMessenger, posted on our home page, and announced by the following stations:
WMTR 1250 AM
WNNJ 1360 AM
News 12 NJ, Fox 5 and Channel 7 ABC
Late openings (2 hour delay) due to inclement weather will also be announced by SchoolMessenger, radio and TV. If the closing is limited to several or one school, the SchoolMessenger will make notifications as well.
- Emergency closing requiring early dismissal: Should a unique weather situation (or other emergency condition) cause the Superintendent to make the decision to dismiss schools early, a SchoolMessenger message will be sent.
Parents must take responsibility for making arrangements for the safety of their youngsters in the event that there is no one at home when a child arrives home, and for making certain that the youngsters understand these arrangements.
Emergency Authorization Information
Parents must keep their child's emergency authorization information up-to-date in Genesis Parent Access. This information is used to contact you or your authorized designee should an emergency arise.
